Summary
In his March 4, 2017 interview with Samantha M. Zinnen, Karl K. Kleemann talked about his life and his time as an American soldier in the Second World War. Karl was a member of Battery B 485th AAA (AW) Battalion (Anti-Aircraft). Karl told stories about his upbringing in Wisconsin, his training for the Pacific theatre, and work as a 40mm anti-aircraft artillery gunner., Karl, talked about his experience in the army from the beginning at Camp Grant in Illinois through waiting for a transport back to the United States in Okinawa. Zinnen conducted this interview for inclusion into the UW-Madison Oral History Program, as part of the History 201: Historian’s Craft Oral History Project.
