Art played a significant role in the Curriculum when Stout opened its doors in 1891. However, as an independent unit, it lost its significance as greater emphasis was placed on Home Economics and Industrial Arts. The origins of the art major began when Orazio Fumagalli came to Stout in 1964 to lay the groundwork for the Department.
