Abstract:
Records of school districts in Wood County and Portage County, Wisconsin, that were consolidated into the Wisconsin Rapids School District. Included are minutes of annual meetings, financial records and statements, teachers' reports, registers and attendance records, and other records. The files vary in completeness, and only a few towns are represented by records from the 19th century. Although there are no district records from Wisconsin Rapids itself in this series, two unidentified financial volumes appear to detail receipts and expenditures for extracurricular activities and sports in that city during the 1930s. One folder of the Wood County Superintendent of Schools contains lists of recommended textbooks, town valuations (1957), and a 1943 brochure from the Wisconsin Rural Schools Association opposing legislation to eliminate one-room schools.
