Abstract:
Records documenting departmental activities regarding rivers, streams, and lakes in the Northwest District (Ashland County, Bayfield County, Barron County, Burnett County, Douglas County, Polk County, Price County, Rusk County, Sawyer County, Taylor County, Washburn County). Although the files cover the period 1935 to 1984, the majority of the records document the 1960s and 1970s. In addition to the internal bodies of water, the lakeshore counties include extensive information on departmental activities regarding Lake Superior. Both the stream and lake files may include surveys; reports; inventories; maps; correspondence and memoranda; transcripts of regulatory hearings; legal descriptions and information on size, location, and length and information on limnology, access facilities, bottom topography, type and abundance of fish and game present. Also included are fish planting records; regulations; information on water temperature, chemistry, and velocity; aquatic nuisance permits issued; and topography of the immediate area.
