Abstract:
Records, 1962-1987 (bulk 1977-1978), of Acting Governor Martin Schreiber who completed Patrick J. Lucey's unexpired term of office when Lucey resigned in 1977. Included are personal and campaign files (1962-1987); photographs, recorded interviews and speeches, and press releases (only on microfilm and also including material from Schreiber's earlier political career); constituent correspondence; legislative files; and subject files on numerous topical issues and the general administration of state government. Among the prominently documented topics are the 1978 state budget surplus, taxation, energy and the environment, health care (especially among the elderly), transportation, and the WSEU state employee strike.

Note:

Correspondents in the subject file portion of Series 1836 are indexed by Series 1837. Schreiber's papers as lieutenant governor (1971-1977) are separately catalogued as Series 2598. Series 2596, 2601, and 2619 contain administrative records that span both the Lucey and Schreiber administrations.
