Records of corporations which dissolved, merged, or consolidated beginning in 1947. Files contain materials dating back to 1889 and include certificates of incorporation, articles of incorporation (sometimes captioned as “Statement of Intent to Become a Corporation”), any subsequent amendments or restatement, certificates of newly-elected officers, and articles of merger, consolidation, or dissolution. Until 1996, the Office of the Secretary of State was the filing and custodial office for the records of corporations formed under or subject to all or portions of Chs. 181, 187, 188, Wis. Stats. In 1985 the agency surveyed its files of 35,000 nonstock corporations dating back to 1889 and declared defunct 11-12,000 inactive files pursuant to Section 7, 1983 Wis. Act 475. English
