Abstract:
Legislative correspondence, committee records, records of conferences and meetings, speeches, bill files, and reference and subject files, and a few personal papers, of a former Democratic representative of Wisconsin's 27th Assembly District (Milwaukee). Czerwinski, who served from 1969-1981, was chairman of the Assembly Health and Social Services Committee, and led the drive for adoption of several noteworthy health care programs, including hospital certificate of need legislation, hospital specialty decertification, the Health Assistance Loan Program (HEAL) for medical students, the generic drug law, and checkpoint immunization for school children. On tape are three hearings of the Health and Social Services Committee, and a hearing held by the Subcommittee on Retail Food Prices. The collection provides a comprehensive overview of Czerwinski's legislative career, with special emphasis on health and related issues considered by the Wisconsin legislature from 1969 to 1980.
