Abstract:
William “Billy” Mitchell (1879-1936) grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and came from a prominent Milwaukee and Wisconsin family. His father, John Mitchell, was a Civil War military officer and Wisconsin politician and his grandfather, Alexander Mitchell, was a wealthy banker and also a Wisconsin politician. During World War I William Mitchell was a commander in the U.S. Air Service.
