The two Akha girls, twin sisters, are standing with their father, the village headman of Phate (PC 4793) in Houa Khong Province. They are wearing considerable silver adornments probably because they are the children of the headman. Both wear silver fasteners and silver neck rings as well as silver decorations on their headgear. It is extremely rare to find twins in the Akha culture because the traditional culture does not allow both twins to live after birth. One may be put to rest in order to have one survive.
