This small collection primarily reflects the music popular in the Yiddish-language community which flourished in New York City, circa 1880s to the mid-twentieth century. The majority of the sheet music dates from the 1890s to the 1930s, and is published by New York firms such as the Hebrew Publishing Company and the Metro Music Company. Types of music included are songs from the Yiddish musical stage, popular music, folksongs, sacred songs and a few labor songs.
It is an excellent complement to the Mayrent Collection of Yiddish Recordings, which includes many recordings of similar music from the same time period.
