OTHER INFORMATION: William E. Roe was a cabin boy and clerk on the Kittie Nye. He and M. Richter owned the M.P. Wells in 1888. Around 1890 he built and operated the sternwheel T.N. Barnsdall. He was part-owner of the boat Avalon (packet) along with Martin F. Noll and Ben S. Pope. He and Martin F. Noll also managed the boat Bessie Smith. William owned the boat Eloise from 1898 to 1907. In 1899 he bought the Kanawha, then sold it to John W. Hubbard on an undisclosed date. He then bought it back again with no date given. In 1902 and 1911 he was master on the Kanawha.
