A string-tying ceremony was held for Bill Sage by the leaders from Houei Kong (XB 6473) who now are refugees in Pakxe in Sedone Province. Chao Muang (District Chief) Tong, Nyaheun, proposes a toast to better days ahead. Sage holds a small cluster of flowers and an egg -- for good fortune -- in his right hand and a small glass of liquor (known as "lao lao" in the Lao language) in his left. Note the many strings around his right wrist. Seen in the background is Mr. Phek (a Laven), USAID medic in Houei Kong.
