Stevens Point, Wisconsin: University of Wisconsin--Stevens Point Telecommunications for the American Suzuki Talent Education Center
Summary
This is a condensation of lectures and lessons recorded at the 1976 Summer Institute at the University of WI.--Stevens Point. Part II: Dr. Suzuki discusses advanced techniques including whole bow training, dynamics and staccato training. This tape deals with more advanced bow control than Part I and is divided into three parts--whole bow training, dynamics, and staccato training. Dr. Suzuki shows several methods of getting students to use and control all parts of the bow. He points out that great artists have great dynamic contrasts in their performances. He teaches keeping a firm grip on the bow for any dynamic, increasing arm weight into the string with increasing loudness. Each staccato note should have the round echoing of a pizzicato tone. The sound will be crunched if the first finger is pushed. Dr. Suzuki teaches staccato playing by fluctuating Thumb Power in conjunction with moving the arm and the elbow, making small circles.
