James Bowman, on the left, and Bill Sage visit the Yao (Iu Mien) village of Nam Kheung (LS-150, PC 3256) in Houa Khong Province. Both men were part of the USAID Ban Houei Sai team. These Yao girls are dressed in their finest clothing in preparation for the Yao New Year and the dedication of a new market. Each girl wears pants colorfully embroidered with traditional Yao designs and a cape that is highly decorated with embroidery, silver trinkets and tassels. Their head wraps have fine threads of silver criss-crossing above their foreheads. All of the girls are wearing silver neck rings.
