Red, black and white cloth like this is woven by the Lu of Muang Sing and Luang Nam Tha in Houa Khong Province. It is done by women and used as a mattress cover or bedcover, or sometimes as a cloth screen hung to separate sleeping areas in the house. The black designs reflect traditional mythological characters used in Lu weaving, which could be dragons, monkeys, horses, or other stylized motifs inspired by legends and ancestors.
