In her latter days, when she ran St. Louis-Osage River-Rocheport, Captain "Steamboat" Bill Heckmann in recollecting her said he did not see any compound engines. "At that time she had 12's-5 ft", he said. Once the General Meade broke loose in ice above Fort Randall, South Dakota and floated 12 miles to opposite Yankton Agency, South Dakota. She snagged opposite Jefferson City, Missouri on September 5, 1884. When she was lost in 1888, she had 4,000 sacks of wheat on board
