1981 photo of the Frances Willard School. Frances Willard,1839-1898, temperance activist and women's rights leader, spent much of her youth on a farm located on South River Road near Janesville and attended and taught in this school. The school was given to the Rock County Historical Society by the Women's Christian Temperance Union in 1961. Originally built by Josiah Willard and his neighbors, it was used as a school until 1920. The school was moved to the Rock County Fairgrounds, where it is opened to fair goers. School groups studying Janesville History spend time there as students of that era would.
