This map of downtown Southport (Kenosha) of 1838 helps to explain the bronze tablet on Hotel Dayton regarding the first church of Kenosha. That building originally stood in the center of Main Street where it intersected Kenosha Street and fronted north. In 1855 it was moved south of the original site about 20 rods.
