These tribal people, perhaps Akha or Yao (Mien), have generated some interest with the products they have brought to sell in Luang Prabang. This can be seen from the Lao people who have gathered to peruse the offerings. Both the regular market and the street market offered various ethnic groups a chance to sell their products. Market transactions were about the only sustained contacts most tribal peoples had with the Lao and Chinese dominated city. Only the Kammu (Khmu') but never the Hmong or Mien were employed as urban workers.
