OTHER INFORMATION: Ways - 4687; Sold to the United States on November 11, 1862 for use in the Civil War and became Tinclad #1, named Rattler. She participated in the attack on Fort Hindman on the Arkansas River, Fort Pemberton on the Yazoo River and in the expedition up the Black and Ouachita rivers in July 1863. Her commanding officer, Acting Master D.W. Glenney, held a grudge against the Union government and arranged to sell the Rattler to the Confederates for $2000 and 100 bales of cotton. The plot didn't come off and Glenney spent the remainder of the war avoiding agents of Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter
