Native Americans harvesting wild rice in the Kakagon Sloughs near Ashland. Man poles rice boat while wife uses cedar ricing sticks and strips grain from stalks over the gunwales of the boat. At the time this picture was taken, the green, unprocessed rice was bringing 93 cents a pound. Processed rice was retailing for $5 to $6 a pound.
