The British Ballads Collection contains sheet music published in the United Kingdom during the 19th century. The majority of the collection was published in London, with a small number of items originating from Edinburgh, Manchester and Leeds. Most of the sheet music consists of popular songs with piano accompaniment. Many items include information on famous performers and the names of music halls and theatres in which the music was performed. The collection also contains folk songs, patriotic songs, and religious music.
The British Ballads Collection complements the Americana Sheet Music Collection, which consists of 19th century sheet music published in the United States.
