This photo looking across the Sheboygan River captures the very large, two-storied Fremont House on the left and the Dimler Brewery on the right in the 1860’s. John Dimler (also spelled Deumler) started the brewery in 1868. Dimler's beer was considered the best in the vicinity, according to his son-in-law John Shroeder. He built a huge underground cellar, which kept the beer cool without the need for ice. When Dimler's business went bankrupt in 1873, the building fell into the hands of Dr. Carl Dreher.
