COLOPHON: "The Little Book of Slavery. Strong Silent Type Press. 2012. Fred Hagstrom. Edition 5 of 20."
Fred Hagstrom: "The Little Book of Slavery was done in tandem with a larger related book on the topic of the slave trade titled Passage. Both books use images of the slave ship diagrams from an anti-slavery publication of 1788. During the work on both books I experimented with different processes and layering of color and texture. I was trying to use archival diagrams and photographs in a way that was consistent with the original quality of the images. In 'The Little Book' the images are coupled with statistics on the economic issues of the slave trade." University of Virginia Libraries catalog lists the subject heading 'Stowage of the British Slave Ship Brookes' and makes reference to Thomas Clarkson's Essay on the impolicy of the African Slave Trade (1788).
