These two photographs were taken for an August 27, 1946 "Manitowoc Herald-Times" article about recently discharged veterans building their own homes in Manitowoc. In the first, Albert Hein Jr., one of those veterans, cuts a board with a carpenter's saw as he kneels against a sawhorse in a partially framed room of a house under construction. The article reported that Hein's brother and father were helping with construction. The second photograph shows Hein's partially completed bungalow house at 418 Chicago Street in Manitowoc. This view is taken from the east end of the 400 block of Chicago Street, facing northwest.
