Olduvai Gorge is famous for its rich deposits of fossils. The Leakey family conducted excavations in Olduvai Gorge for many years and recovered numerous remains of early man including Australopithecus (Zinjanthropus) boisei. The worker in the photo, possibly from the Kamba ethnic group, is excavating a rhino fossil that is probably more than 1,750,000 years old.
