Abstract
In her June 2012 interview with Christine Haas, Bonnie Augusta talks about her upbringing in Fargo ND, Crystal Lake, IL and Lodi, WI. She talks of the differences she felt as a young child about her sexuality. She tells of coming out and the reaction of teachers and staff within the school she worked; the effects it had on her students. She talks about the paths that lead her to the GLBTQ resource position in the MMSD. She discusses the following topics: racism, GLBT resources, coming out, climate in Madison public schools, community based involvement, creating new policies, her involvement in GLEE, GLADE, GLSEN, GSAFE, family. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the UW-Madison Oral History Program.
