Anne Marshall was born in 1904. She attended college in Ohio, receiving her Ph.D. from Ohio State in 1939. The same year, Dr. Marshall joined the faculty of the Stout Institute. From 1945 until her retirement in 1969, Marshall was chair of the science department. In 1971, the facilities in the biology and physics lab were named for her. Dr. Marshall died in 1984.
