The origins of the Media Technology Conference can be traced to September of 1967 when Ansel Adams visited the Stout campus. Adams, a world-renowned photographer, presented a lecture and informal workshop on photography. In subsequent years, other national leaders in the field of communications were keynote speakers at the conferences. Under the direction of the Chair of the Audio-Visual Department (later the Dean of Learning Resources) the conferences increased in size in terms of number of speakers, attenders, and exhibitors. In 1987, responsibility for the Conference was transferred to the School of Industry and Technology.
