Clyde A. Bowman was born in Prescott, Wisconsin in 1887. He first came to Stout as a student and received further training at Columbia University. Following teaching positions at Stillwater and Stevens Point he returned to Stout in 1919 as the first Dean of Industrial Education. Even after his retirement in 1953, Dean Bowman was a national leader in industrial education and is credited with making Stout well-known in this field. Bowman served as acting president of Stout Institute during 1922-1923. Bowman passed away in 1981. The third Manual Training School building, which was dedicated in 1898, was renamed Bowman Hall in 1952.
