This review examines the impact of physical education programs on the rudimentary growth of children in academic settings. Current research regarding the number of children participating in physical education, the reduction of physical education requirements in Wisconsin K-12 public schools, and the effect of physical education on children's health and academic performance were reviewed in this study. Research indicates that physical activity is associated with many positive health outcomes, and may also benefit cognitive functioning. Additionally, students' academic performance may be improved by regular participation in physical education. Current school-wide initiatives, recommendations for best practice, and future considerations for school-based physical education programs are offered.
