This paper describes the development and production of a video training
tutorial that addresses audio production questions regarding proper
application of audio production tools. The purpose of this project is to
enable a basic understanding of audio theory and an understanding of the
principles involved in recording an audio event. The tutorial teaches a
base line level of competency for recording in a studio and graphically
explains three major production areas: the equipment and its usage,
correct microphone placement, and the recording process. In addition, this
paper will briefly examine how people learn with instructional and media
aids. Although designed specifically for recording at the Noel Fine Arts
Center, the tutorial, because it explains real-world basic theories, is helpful
in any recording situation.
