The Purpose of the Study: The first task of this thesis will be to attempt to identify,
define and explicate the supportive climate concept and
how such a supervisor and supervisee relationship might lead
to the improvement of individual, work team, and subsequently
organization productivity. The three aspects briefly described above as the supportive climate concept can then be developed
I into a training program specifically for first line supervisors. The concepts taught in the training program would
provide the supervisors with behaviors which, when appropriately
transferred to the job environment, should contribute
to increased supportve relationships and productivity on the
job.
The training program so developed could be adapted for
use by any large organization in the United States. It could
also be used in organizations in other countries or cultures,
but its adaptability and use in developing countries is the
special concern of this thesis. The training program to be
developed around the supportive climate concept (see Chapter
IV) will be designed for use within the Cameroon Development
Corporation (C.D.C.), an agricultural corporation system in
the United Republic of Cameroon in West Africa.
