Fifty-six interviews from an oral history project on the beginnings of non-commercial educational television, conducted by James and Anabel Robertson with public TV pioneers from the 1950's and 1960's. The interviews concern the ideological split between proponents of educational television and proponents of public television, the primitive conditions under which some of the early stations began, problems of early programming, efforts to interest professional educators in the medium, the role of the Federal Communications Commission, and other topics. They emphasize the dreams the interviewees had for their field and how they feel public television today measures up to those dreams. English
