Abstract:

Central administrative files of the Department of Natural Resources, mainly 1968-1984, that continue a similar file (Series 271) of the department's predecessor, the Department of Conservation. The records document internal administration and policy; state and federal legislation and the development of regulations; conservation education and projects; cooperation with the federal government, other state agencies, and private organizations; national, state, and local conferences and meetings such as the annual Conservation Congresses; acquisition by the Outdoor Recreation Action Program (ORAP) and management of parks, refuges, and other public lands; water resources and environmental protection; wildlife and forest management; and research and surveys.
