Abstract:
Correspondence, reports, maps, photographs, and writings of Robert F. Matthes and Donald F. Wood, who served as Wisconsin port advisers and specialists for the Department of Resource Development and the Division of Industrial and Port Development of the Executive Department. The records include documentation of research for a statewide waterfront renewal study; advertising concerning the advantages of shipping via Wisconsin ports; transcribed testimony and correspondence concerning Wisconsin's participation in the Chicago water diversion case; and correspondence and documents regarding the commercial and physical development of harbors and ports in Bayfield, Green Bay, Milwaukee, Port Washington, Sturgeon Bay, Superior, and other local communities. Included are exchanges with the Brown County Board of Harbor Commissioners, Harry Brockel and the Milwaukee Board of Harbor Commissioners, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The photographs documenting port and harbor conditions were taken by the port advisers.
