Correspondence, memoranda, reports and subject files, mainly 1972-1987, relating to divisional policies and projects that were maintained by the division administrator and members of the staff. Included are chronological correspondence of division administrators Richard Matty and Richard Speros, appointment files of Matty (1989 only), occasional speeches, additional correspondence with state legislators and trade organizations, and extensive information on tourism advertising and advertising agencies hired to represent the state (Bozell & Jacobs and Stephan & Brady) as well as some agencies who applied for the contract; files on the division's banner advertising program, familiarization (FAM) tours of the Lake Superior area and other locations sponsored by the state; and development projects partially funded by the Upper Great Lakes Regional Commission; and photographs and color slides of Travel Information Centers and displays (1961-1968 and 1983-1991) and miscellaneous promotional activities during the administrations of Governors Gaylord Nelson and Warren P. Knowles. Files on the UW-Extension Recreation Resources Center and a 1977 sales guide include detailed information about tourist activities, destinations, and accommodations. The videotape is part of a Phoenix Award submission about Gary Knowles' promotion of the 1987 Circus World Parade. English
