Abstract:
General correspondence of the board and its predecessors and staffing agencies concerning subjects such as the licensing and examination of registered nurses and practical nurses, revision of legislation and administrative rules, and the general improvement of the nursing profession in Wisconsin. In addition to correspondence the files include minutes of committee and staff meetings, annual and semiannual reports, speeches by various staff members, form letters and policy guidelines, surveys, and statistics. In addition there are files on contacts with directors of nursing schools; issues addressed by the board and its Practice Committee such as midwives, physicians' assistants, and nurse practitioners; and information on numerous internal committees such as the Committee on Educational Standards and committees on competency and the utilization of clinical facilities in the Milwaukee area and external committees such as the Statewide Study of Nursing and Nursing Education and committees for two statewide plans for nursing education. The series also includes files on relations with other government agencies such as the Attorney General, the Board of Health and the Department of Health and Social Services, the Department of Nursing of the University of Wisconsin Extension (Signe Cooper), the State Board of Vocational and Adult Education, and the Department of Regulation and Licensing and with professional organizations such as the American Nurses Association, the National League of Nursing, the Wisconsin Hospital Association, and the Wisconsin Nurses Association. The series also documents the notable contributions of staff members Josephine Balaty, Adda Eldredge, Leila I. Given, Adele G. Stahl, and Elaine F. Ellibee to the nursing profession in Wisconsin.
