Abstract:
Collection of John Randal McDonald, an architect who designed houses and other buildings built in the Midwest, Florida, and the United States Virgin Islands. The collection includes original drawings and reproductions, conceptual drawings and sketches, photographs and transparencies, and a small amount of manuscript material. The bulk of the material focuses on McDonald's early Wisconsin regional designs, specifically his residential designs from 1949-1958 for clients mainly in Wisconsin and Illinois. McDonald's work represents how the Prairie style was adapted in the Midwest and illustrates Frank Lloyd Wright's influence on Wisconsin and Midwestern architects and architecture.
