Abstract:
Microfilmed birth registers. Information appearing on the register of births over the years remained very constant, though the format changed from time to time, particularly at the turn of the century. Items shown include: full name of the child; sex; color, later expanded to indicate race (White, Black, Mulatto, Indian, or Mixed White-Indian); names of other issue living; full name of father and occupation; names of mother before marriage and, much later, occupation; illegitimacy; stillbirth; hour, day of week, and year of birth; place, town or township, county in which born; name and residence of physician, midwife, or other person signing certificate, or on whose application registry was made; later, nativity of parents and still later, parent's birthplace; date of certification; and date of registration. The earliest dates of births registered was one in 1823, a few in the 1830s, and more in the 1840s.
