Abstract:
Papers of James Baughman, member and later chair of the Wisconsin Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (USCCR). The collection documents the Committee, the issues it investigated, and, to a lesser extent, the Commission. The USCCR was established in 1957 as an independent, bipartisan, fact-finding agency of the Executive Branch for the purpose of investigating allegations of denial of civil rights. The state committees serve as local fact-finding agencies.
