Papers of William Mitchell of Madison, a librarian at the University of Wisconsin Memorial Library, an avocational genealogist, and a victim of AIDS. The collection primarily consists of Mitchell's extensive genealogical research materials on the Mitchell, Nault, Gaffney, and Holquist families, including research notes, copies of public records (birth, death, and marriage certificates), correspondence, published genealogies, manuscripts, memorabilia, photographs, and slides. To a lesser degree the collection documents Mitchell's personal life and his battle with the AIDS illness through financial records, insurance papers, information on his medical history, diary entries, and correspondence.
