Abstract:
The collection consists of transcriptions of Civil War letters written by Captain William Mitchell to his family in Milwaukee between 1861 and 1863. Mitchell wrote about his experiences in the war and inquired about family. Several letters discuss the action in battles that Mitchell saw with the 1st Wisconsin Regiment, including Perryville, Kentucky; Stones River, Tennessee; and Chickamauga where Mitchell was killed in action.
