Records from an organization devoted to promoting a professional spirit of fellowship among members and supporting state and federal legislation favorable to retired teachers. Originally known as the La Crosse County Retired Teachers Association, the organization changed its name to the La Crosse Area Retired Teachers Association in 1966. A second name change occurred in 1993 when the organization became known as the La Crosse Area Retired Educators Association. The group is still active.
In 1959, the group became part of the Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association. The organization is also affiliated with the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA), a division of the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP).
Materials include historical materials (ca. 1969- ca. 1991), by-laws (1966-2003), newspaper clippings (1960-1992), photographs (n. d.), scrapbooks (1956-1992), a limited amount of committee materials (1993-2004), membership directories (1969-1973; 1975-1995; 2000-2004), minutes (1957-1988; 1990-1992; 2000-2002), miscellaneous materials (1973; 1991), lists of officers (1970-2005), and treasurer's reports (1963-1989). Materials from related organizations include a handbook from the National Retired Teachers Association (1947) and miscellaneous materials from the Wisconsin Retired Teachers Association (1962-1981).
