Diaries (1863-1864) of Captain Van S. Bennett of Company I, 12th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment, giving accounts of the Siege of Vicksburg and other campaigns while a member of Sherman’s army in Mississippi and Georgia, and his observations of the activities of the Union soldiers he served with. Also included are his notebook containing various accounts, orders for equipment, and lists of wounded. Additionally, an Orderly Sergeant’s roll book for Company I (1861-1862) is available at Wisconsin Historical Society.
