Partial Transcript: You lived through the increase in gas prices in the 70’s. What do you remember about the 1970's energy embargo or why it happened
Segment Synopsis: I remember in 1974 when our son was born it was a big thing, and the president of the US told us that “in order to be good Americans” we needed to turn our thermostats down in our houses to 65 during the day and 55 at night. And we did that for years to come, and we still do it. My mom said that the child was going to get pneumonia because of having to sleep in very cold temperatures, but we did our thing to preserve energy. I also remember long lines at the gas pumps – this wasn’t as evident in a rural community as in the bigger cities.

Segment Synopsis: Not sure when first heard about renewable energy but it became more talked about as years went on. CS knew that renewable energy was the way to preserve energy for the next generation and to do what was right, because energy is used world-wide and it affects everyone.Even more so today. More work and research has been done in energy, and certain things have worked better than others, groups like here at the Wisconsin Energy Institute give me hope that in the future we can use energy that’s better for the planet and the people living on it.

Partial Transcript: When was the first time you heard about climate change? And how has the technology increased or changed?
Segment Synopsis: By the turn of the century, probably before then. More information and talk about it as we move forward. CS realized that some of the ideas that that we are doing are actually going to work. At first CS was skeptical that fossil fuels were all that we had, but now she believes that the answers are out there.

Partial Transcript: What are your hopes for my generation and how we make or use energy?
Segment Synopsis: I hope that research continues and that what they find is put into affect and that people will understand how important it is not just for themselves but for generations to come, and people in other parts of the world.

Partial Transcript: Do you have anything else you’d like to say about the topics of climate change and renewable energy?
Segment Synopsis: Yeah. In Florida, in CS's park they changed all the pools and hot tub into geothermal to preserve energy and control costs, and I was really happy with that. People weren’t all happy right away and had to adjust things. Second thing is that CS lives close to an electrical plant and CS had three coal furnaces near the bay. They had to cool the water and made it a viewing station for manatees because the water was warmer there, but now they closed down two of the three and we have solar farms close to us, and I’m excited about the fact that people are putting this stuff into use.
